Oral Hygiene

It is likely that when you attend an examination with your dentist, he or she may refer you to our friendly hygienist for further treatment.  This is especially likely if you have gum problems or your teeth require cleaning. A hygienist may only treat patients under a current (within 36m) prescription from a dentist .They will not treat you if you have not got a recent recommendation from a dentist.

Our dental hygienists are Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) who work as part of your practice’s clinical team.  Their work focuses on the treatment and control of periodontal disease (gum disease) and dental caries (tooth decay).  A hygienist will also offer you advice on how to maintain good oral health, recommend suitable products for you to use, and give you nutritional advice on how to prevent your condition from advancing further.

Common procedures carried out by a dental hygienist are: removing plaque and calculus, scaling and polishing teeth, and applying coatings and sealants to teeth.  Dental hygienists specialise in preventing oral disease.

Please be aware that  all Hygiene appointments will now require a 50% deposit towards your appointment to be paid at the time of booking and this will be deducted from your treatment on the day of your visit.
